Doesn’t work anymore — Is it intentional?

I have done all the troubleshooting I can think of but this app just doesn’t work anymore. It stopped working just before the update, shutting down before I can type anything and after the update, the same issue continues.
I came to the app store to see if I could figure out the issue and I noticed a brand spanking new “paid” version of Astro. Not only that, but it has 5 stars with multiple comments made on the same day and WHAT A COINCIDENCE, the same typing style and even the exact same reviews!
I think it is pretty jacked up that a company may be intentionally sabotaging their free app that has worked fine and has been popular for a long time just to make money on a new application.
Perhaps this is an assumption but I am in a profession that is trained to deduce information from the facts presented.
