Astro for Facebook Messenger Free App Reviews

looks like it would work.. everything.. at first gets your recent conversation, then after that, it won’t get any new incoming messages.. too bad, i was hoping to have the messenger so i could have a little windows open instead of the whole browser. don’t download unless they fix this.

The most annoying thing is that Facebook Messenger will show new messages but half of the time Astro Messenger will ding the sound of a new message but will not show unless I quit and relaunch. Other bugs include showing that you said the message like 5 or 6 times when in reality you only sent it once. The autocorrect feature is about as annoying as the iPhone autocorrect, and it’s really not necessary on the computer since accuracy on a keyboard is much higher than on a phone screen. Attaching photos says its attaching, but always fails. I use this at work so that I’m not on Facebook’s website but I can still keep a conversation with friends. It’s easier to type on a keyboard than a phone. If these bugs can be fixed it will be 5 stars in my book!

Hi, i updated my review to this latest version. There are few problems I faced after updating: 1. Sometimes messages sync slow and not up-to-date. I have chatted on fb web for a while but there is nothing new in astro app. Therefore I have to keep on opening fb web to continue chatting. 2. Seen status: so wrong, mainly wrong all the time. Please update more. Hope it helps

… so not only has the app become a ? on my dash, but I can’t even update with this new version that was released a few days ago. Is it just me or is there an issue with the link/server/stuff? Thanks for looking into it! Hope it gets fix soon!

Often couldn’t close the application due to it not showing up in the menu bar when selected. Couldn’t get back to preferences, and had very wacky behavior. I had to uninstall it, and I hated to do that, seemed promising. I’m sure they’ll get the bugs knocked out in a few iterations.

At the moment with the latest update, it shuts down when I start typing away— so I am not able to use it. When it does work, the chat does not push new conversations through righ away, I have to manually take it offline, then back online. I’m just waiting for it to work before I buy premium, I would be more upset if I had purchased it, but it’s free, so all I could do is bare it, though I wish it worked like it’s supposed to.

Started crashing after being open for less than 2 minutes….Rebooting didnt help…No updates that Im aware of

first time trying this. it crashes a moment after launching (OS X 10.9.4). 3x in a row.

I have done all the troubleshooting I can think of but this app just doesn’t work anymore. It stopped working just before the update, shutting down before I can type anything and after the update, the same issue continues. I came to the app store to see if I could figure out the issue and I noticed a brand spanking new “paid” version of Astro. Not only that, but it has 5 stars with multiple comments made on the same day and WHAT A COINCIDENCE, the same typing style and even the exact same reviews! I think it is pretty jacked up that a company may be intentionally sabotaging their free app that has worked fine and has been popular for a long time just to make money on a new application. Perhaps this is an assumption but I am in a profession that is trained to deduce information from the facts presented. I’m not saying, I’m just saying...

This app would force close everytime the messages would load up. Looked like it would have a nice interface if it worked.

Astro was great to use until just recently when everytime I opened the app it would connect to facebook and then just crash. Really liked the app, please fix!

Haven’t been able to use it AT ALL

You really need to show when the other person is typing and when they’ve seen the message… When that shall be fixed, I’ll give 5/5. Besides that, the app is amazing and looks GREAT

This app does exactly what it advertises. So glad I found it! The only thing I wish I could do is resize the sidebar which lists all the conversations with other people; it makes the window a bit big and it takes up a lot of space. Otherwise I love the app. :)

Was working great with stickers! Now glitchy and have to pay to upgrade to get stickers that used to be free.. and so goes another good app…. flush!

Ads are big and cover your inbox.

I was looking for a standalone FB messaging app that I could use at work -- I dont like having the Facebook website open, but as people are increasingly using FB Messenger to send messages, I do sometimes want to respond while working. Ive just been using it a couple days, but so far so good! It hasnt crashed once for me, signing in wasnt an issue, message search worked really well, and the interface seems zippy to me (and Im usually the first to notice any lag). If it keeps working well, I will definitely buy the paid version to support the devs (and get rid of the ads).

Completly frove on the opening screen. My computer got really finicky right after too. Screen started flashing. really weird. Not sure if it entirely had to do with the app but the problem seemed to stop once I got rid of it.

Not sure whats wrong with everyone elses system but this is working just fine for me. Kind of wish it wasnt $5 do remove ads and unlock stickers, but at the same time I do get it that being in the app store isnt free. For what its worth Im running OS X 10.10.3 on a late 2012 iMac on a heavily secured network(usually the cause of problems for net dependant programs). Edit: After running for a few hours Ill be uninstalling. Advertisements take up over 50% of the left column of the default window size, must be seen for 15 seconds, and a new one appears just about every minute. No thanks.
